Untamed: The Art of Antoine-Louis Barye

Realms of Faith: Medieval Art from the Walters Art Museum
Featuring the Walters’ renowned collection of medieval art, this exhibition of approximately 50 objects from the 6th to the 15th century focuses on the religious beliefs and practices of one of the most fascinating periods in world history.

The Road to Impressionism: Barbizon Landscapes from the Walters Art Museum
Exploring the range of works produced by Barbizon and impressionist artists, this traveling exhibition of 30 paintings includes works by Rousseau, Millet, Corot, Daubigny, and Sisley.

Industry of Perfection: Japanese Cloisonné Enamels
This exhibition of approximately 45 objects selected from the collection of Stephen W. Fisher celebrates the products of Japan’s later 19th-century cloisonné masters. With the active support of Japan’s Meiji government, the cloisonné artists were spurred to push the limits of their craft, achieving in metal and color works that are at once unbelievably ornate and endowed with a profound and subtle beauty. These works were instrumental in demonstrating to the world, as they traveled from domestic industrial competitions to international expos in Paris, London, and across the US, that Japan had become a modern industrial nation.

Heroes!
Using the ancient Greek culture and its art as a point of origin, this exhibition will explore the integral role of superhuman and mortal heroes in both historical and contemporary society. Statues, reliefs, vases, bronzes, and jewelry drawing from the Walters and important collections across the globe will highlight how heroes were acknowledged, why they were important, and what made people seek them out.
