The Walters Art Museum was founded in what has been called the greatest single act of cultural philanthropy. In 1931, Henry Walters donated the collection he and his father had amassed, the buildings that housed it and a modest endowment to the city of Baltimore for the benefit of the public.

Today the museum relies on the generosity of friends and supporters partnering with Henry Walters legacy to provide programs and exhibitions that continue to offer value to the community while showcasing the world renowned collection of art.
